What are Objectives and Key Results?
OKRs provide a simple but powerful collaborative goal-setting and alignment framework for teams and organizations. Clients I work with develop objectives and key results for the parts of their work where they need to grow, innovate, and/or transform.
Objectives:
Clear, inspirational, directional statements about what's important to achieve and why it matters. Mini vision statements about what’s most important to improve or change, now.
Key Results:
Specific, measurable outcomes that tell you if you’re making progress or succeeding on your objectives. Key results aren’t activities – they’re inspired, aspirational, empirically-measurable experiments in what it might mean to do better.
OKRs encourage stretch goals, transparency, and alignment across the organization. With OKRs, you’re either winning or learning. Done well, they help you focus on what's truly important to improve or change — not just what's urgent — allowing you to focus your energy on the work that will have the greatest impact.
Sound simple? It is!
Objectives and Key Results, in practice, are simple (but not easy). Many implementations start with reading a book or attending a class hosted by an OKR platform, and end with frustration, confusion, and disappointment. Not here. With No-BS OKRs, clients develop self-sufficient, independent OKR implementations at scale over the course of one, two, or three quarters.
